Growing up and being raised by my mother, she taught me how important it is to eat healthy, real, nourishing food. Her idea of a sweet treat for me growing up was carob chips or a spoonful of honey. This didn’t last into my teen years when all of my friends were eating packaged sweets and McDonald’s. So for the middle part of my life I ate anything that was taught to be harmful for myself. After high school, when I moved out and on my own, is when I really started cooking for myself. I brought some of my mothers knowledge with me, but was still stuck on what was easy and cheap. Food like frozen salmon filets with packaged noodles, eating out, and processed food was convenient. It really wasn’t until my 20’s, when I had my two boys that the wisdom of healthy eating really caught on to me and made me really think about what I wanted to feed my children. Today I have been lucky enough to be a stay-at-home momma for the past 6 years and cook everything my family puts into their little bodies. I have the time to experiment and really learn more about cooking, shopping for affordable healthy food for a family and seeing what works.. and what just doesn’t cut it at the dinner table. My Fresh Thinking is all about a fresh way of thinking. What we put in and on our bodies is so important, that’s what I want to help others with.
